Queensland Ambulance Service said paramedics were called to a location on Mary River Road, Cooroy at 5.14pm on October 30.
It’s understood the woman was struck by lightning at a sporting complex.
“One patient, a female in her 20s, was treated in a life-threatening condition and transported to Nambour Hospital with critical care paramedics on board,” a QAS spokesperson said.
The woman has since died, with police confirming they were preparing a report for the coroner following the “sudden death” of a 21-year-old woman in Cooroy yesterday.
The Cooroora United Football Club, where the fatal strike is understood to have taken place, has closed its grounds today.
The club also posted a statement on its Facebook page overnight.
“We wish to acknowledge an unexpected incident occurring at the CUFC grounds this evening, at approximately 5pm,” the statement read.
“Out of privacy for those directly impacted, it is not yet appropriate to share details of the incident, though it is important to share that those in and around the grounds, including both members and emergency services, showed admirable action, respect and care for each other.”
They urged the club community to remain respectful online, avoid “unhelpful speculation”, and check in with one another.
