A 14-year-old boy has been injured in a fight that erupted as families celebrated Halloween on a residential street in Melbourne’s west.

Emergency services were called to Avonwood Avenue in Wyndham Vale about 6.15pm yesterday following reports a boy had been injured.

CCTV footage from the residential street shows two boys sprinting away from a group of armed offenders before one of them is kicked and another is punched.

Police allege the group, one armed with a kitchen knife, approached the victim before he was assaulted.

The group of five fled on foot before emergency services arrived.

The 14-year-old was treated at the scene for a minor injury.

Residents say the boy’s friend jumped into backyards to hide and pleaded with them for help.

The horrifying violence shocked families who were celebrating Halloween on the quiet residential street.

“It was really scary, we were out trick or treating and there was lots of helicopters,” a young witness said.

“I called my dad and I said ‘there’s lots of police in front of our house’.”

The girl’s father said he didn’t expected a knife fight to occur in the area.

“We send them [trick-or-treating] alone,” he said.

“This is a very quiet street. Good neighbours.”

Police say they are treating the incident as a targeted attack and said those involved are known to each other.

At this stage no arrests have been made.
