A one-year-old girl has died after being struck by a train in NSW’s northwest.

Around 7.50pm yesterday, emergency services were called to Baranbah Street in Baan Baa, near Narrabri, following reports that a child had been hit by a freight train.

Paramedics treated the one-year-old for serious injuries before she was taken to hospital.

She could not be saved.

Officers were told the child was walking along the road when she was clipped by a train.

The 22-year-old train driver was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established as police investigate the circumstances of the crash.
