Charges laid almost three months after ‘amazing’ man killed in Yarramundi alleged hit-run

A man has been charged almost three months after he was first arrested over an alleged hit and run in Sydney’s north-west.

Dean Lovell, 51, was found dead on Springwood Road at Yarramundi, outside of Richmond, about 11.30pm on August 11.

The day after the crash Lovell’s family told 9News he was “a wonderful man who loved his life and his animals” and claimed the driver had “left an amazing person alone to die”.

Police found a damaged black 2005 Ford Fiesta about 15 kilometres south in Glenbrook that night, established a crime scene and seized the car.

Two days later, on August 14, they arrested a 39-year-old man in Lithgow before releasing him pending more inquiries.

About 4.30pm this Monday, they arrested the same man again in nearby Cranebrook and took him to Windsor police station.

He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death and refused bail to appear in Penrith Local Court on Tuesday.
