A three-metre-long bull shark has been snagged off Queensland’s coast, hauled in by a group of mates on Bribie Island.

The mates fish frequently but say the catch is by far the biggest they’ve ever landed.

“Jeez that’s a big boy,” the men can be heard saying as they reeled in the monster from the depths.

The beast’s capture was half an hour in the making after it was hooked on a line.

“It just took off, like a train, man,” fisher Jackson Fraser said.

“And yeah, it was just incredible.”

Fraser said it was the first shark caught by the mates that had broken the 10-foot mark.

“I knew it was big from the start,” he said.

“It just kept going and going and finally turned its head and just started pumping it in.”

Experts say it’s no surprise in bull shark season.

“Any shark over two metres is big, any shark over three metres is particularly big,” Associate Professor Daryl McPhee, of Bond University, said.

“So it’s certainly a large shark.”

The mates snagged a few photos before safely releasing the beast back into the blue.

“Ended up tagging it, it was a big pregnant bull,” Fraser said.
