Emergency services were called to Scott Close in Raymond Terrace shortly before 11pm after reports a large dog was on the loose and attacking people.

Police found that the dog – described as a Staffordshire bull terrier-mastiff cross – had attacked a 36-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy.

Officers were told the two older had been walking along the street when the dog attacked them.

The animal then ran into a house and attacked the boy.

All three were treated at the scene and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police destroyed the dog and are now working with council rangers to identify its owner.
