Three luxury boats have sunk and another has been damaged during a fire at a Sydney marina.

The blaze broke out on one of the vessels about 3.30am and quickly spread to other yachts moored nearby at The Spit Marina in Mosman, on the city’s lower north shore.

Flames from the fire lit up the pre-dawn sky as smoke poured into the air.

Fire crews, police and the NSW Port Authority were called in to battle the blaze.

Nobody was injured but four people were treated for minor smoke inhalation.

NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Adam Dewberry said the fire has been contained.

“There’s been some damage to those other yachts, but fortunately, firefighters have been able to cut it [fire] off because we could have lost dozens of these vessels.”

Firefighters are now leaving the scene and it will be left with the marina management to organise recovery operations, including the cleaning-up of oil and fuel in the waters of The Spit.
