Police are desperately searching for two Life Saving Victoria jet skis – worth about $50,000 each – which were stolen from a yard near a popular Melbourne beach.

Two Sea-Doo jet skis were taken from a yard on The Boulevard, near Port Melbourne Beach about 5am on January 4, police said.

Detectives believe multiple thieves used a grey Nissan Navara and a second vehicle to tow the jet skis, which were already attached to trailers.

A tracking device attached to the jet skis led police to an empty property on Troups Road South in Mount Cottrell, but there was no trace of them when officers search the property.

Police instead think the thieves may have disabled the tracking devices at the Troups Road property, which is located on Melbourne’s western fringe.

CCTV has been released of a man they would like to speak to in connection with their search.

Images of the jet skis and the Nissan Navara in question have also been released.

Victoria Police detective acting sergeant Sean Armstrong slammed the actions of the thieves , noting the jet skis were “absolutely essentials” to the lifesaving work undertaken on beaches across the state.

“To steal equipment that is literally used in life-or-death situations is just incomprehensible,” Armstrong said.

“These offenders have not only stolen crucial pieces of equipment, but they have also potentially put swimmers and those visiting beaches across the state at risk”.
