A man has died after being shot inside his unit in Sydney’s west this morning.
Emergency services were called to a unit block on Newman Street in Merrylands at about 6.40am after a 44-year-old man was found by a female resident with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Police have said that it is believed the man was a resident of the unit he was located at.
The man died at the scene.
Neighbours reportedly heard arguments at about 4am before police were called to the unit.
Superintendent Tim Calman said there is no indication that the incident was gang-related.
“The man was known to police but only for a minor matter,” he said.
”No obvious links to organised crime or drug related matters.”
However Calman said it did not appear to be a “random attack”.
At this stage police are searching one person who may be linked to the incident.
