An emergency warning has been issued as flash flooding inundates a popular Victorian holiday hotspot, with cars swept out to sea.

A severe thunderstorm crossing Wye River, Kennett River, Cumberland River and Lorne has brought “very dangerous conditions”, sparking a warning for locals to take immediate shelter.

Roads have been flooded, including the famed Great Ocean Road, according to VicEmergency.

The flash flood zone is about 75km east of two fires still burning in the Otways.

The severe thunderstorm is expected to spread across to the Central and West and South Gippsland districts later this evening.
