Man charged with rape, attempted murder of woman on walking track

A man has been charged with three counts of rape and one count of attempted murder after an alleged attack on a woman in Rockhampton, Queensland.

Police allege the woman was attacked and sexually assaulted by the man near a popular walking track around Yeppen Lagoon, at 10.30am on Sunday.

The matter was reported to police at about 11am, and the woman taken to hospital.

She is receiving treatment and professional support.

After establishing a crime scene, police appealed to the public for information, and yesterday at 11am arrested and charged a 27-year-old Victorian Man at Boat Harbour Drive in Hervey Bay.

He was refused bail and will appear in court today.

The investigation continues, with police particularly seeking information or vision of a dark blue 2008 Toyota two-door hatchback from the Yeppen Lagoon area around the time of the alleged offence.
