Police believe the younger rider and a high-school-aged boy, both on e-bikes, crashed on the bike path near the Kawana Way and Sunshine Motorway interchange at Mountain Creek about 3.35pm today.

The younger boy was rushed to the nearby Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but died from his injuries.

Police said the older boy refused treatment and was helping them with their inquiries.

The forensic crash unit is investigating and wants anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant footage to come forward.
