Suspected human remains have been found after the search for a missing swimmer on the NSW Mid North Coast was suspended.

Astin Gerstl, a school leaver from The King’s School in Sydney, got into trouble in the water at Little Bay Beach near Coffs Harbour about 4.20pm on Sunday.

A search involving police and Surf Life Saving NSW over several days failed to locate the 18-year-old.

This morning, police were called to the beach after a member of the public found what is believed to be human remains.

The remains have been taken for forensic examination and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The King’s School has offered support for Gerstl’s graduating class and the wider community.
