The home’s owner, Panagiota Karagiannis, said that she is over the complications the house has brought.
“Both our children started having breathing issues, asthma, but they were not ever born with asthma,” she said.
“Athena was in and out of the paediatric wards.
“My husband is immunocompromised. He started suffering severe chest infections.”
“There were experts that came out to the property who confirmed there’s an abnormal mould ecology found in the home,” Panagiota said.
The family said it took two years until they were eventually moved into alternative accommodation.
They noticed an immediate improvement in their daughter’s health, however, more stress came along.
“We were moved 13 times in 7 months.”
The house was eventually stripped by the insurance company, but when the family moved back in, they say they started getting sick again.
They then hired their own mould consultant.
”We are deeply sympathetic, we are committed to supporting them to resolve what has been a highly complex claim,” Hollard Insurance said in a statement.
The company is now working with the family on a knock-down rebuild.
“If it had been done in a timely manner, I think the frame of the house could have been saved, and I think my husband’s health could have been saved,” Panagiota said.
“I want there to be reform in the industry, I want there to be better knowledge in the industry.
“I want something good to come from what we’ve been through.”
