The founders of an online fundraiser for Bondi hero Ahmed El Ahmed have visited him in hospital with the news that he’s now a multi-millionaire.

Ahmed, whose unarmed takedown and disarming of one of the Bondi gunmen became famous around the world, has been in hospital since that day with multiple gunshot wounds he sustained in his life-saving actions.

Fundraiser co-organiser Zachery Dereniowski, who posts on Instagram under the handle @mdmotivator, uploaded a video of him presenting Ahmed with a cheque for more than $2.5 million in his hospital bed.

“I deserve it?” Ahmed said.

Dereniowski asked Ahmed what he would say to the people who donated to him.

“To stand with each other, all human beings and forget everything bad (in the past) and keep going to save lives,” he said.

He said he had acted from the heart when he took on the gunman, having seen people enjoying a wonderful day together and that being disrupted.

“This country, best country in the world … but we’re not going to stand back and watch,” he said.

“God protect Australia.”
