An Adelaide parking inspector has been sacked after confessing to handing out fake fines in a university car park to meet quotas.

Business owner Bruno Elias received 14 fines for parking illegally in the Wilson car park at Adelaide University.

“I went through them all and I knew they weren’t me because I didn’t know where 140A parking location at Adelaide University was,” he said.

The enforcements even escalated to the government fines unit.

“They wanted to come and basically repossess my cars, cancel my registrations and cancel my licence,” he said

After doing some digging, Elias found a Wilson car park employee, known to him, was behind the fake fines.

The inspector had also targeted other people he knew.

“There’s five people that I know of in my friendship group that have got these fines,” he said.

The employee confessed to issuing the fines to meet what he called a daily fines quota.

“He basically said ‘they were easy rego numbers because I used to see them all the time’,” Elias said.

The employee allegedly entered innocent motorist’s number plates into the system, along with black photos as evidence.

“I think it’s a big problem and it needs to be investigated at the highest level because its not good enough,” Elias said.

According to Wilson an internal investigation is now under way and the employee involved has been sacked.

It said customers who were incorrectly issued sanctions had their fines cancelled.

The government fines unit told 9News it put all penalties on hold from the university car parks until they can be assured they were issued correctly.

Adelaide University says it acted swiftly, dismissing Wilson as a contractor.
