Police swarmed Keysborough Secondary College in the city’s south-east about 3pm yesterday following reports a 43-year-old man had been injured in a stabbing.
The victim Aaron Sykes – the principal of the school – was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
Kim Ramchen, 37, was arrested at the scene and was taken to hospital with a minor injury, where he remained under police guard.
Ramchen, an IT teacher at the school, has since been charged with two counts of unlawful assault, one count of intentionally causing injury, recklessly engaging in conduct placing a person in danger of serious injury and assault with a weapon.
He appeared before Dandenong Magistrates’ Court today.
In a letter sent to parents, the school said Sykes was “recovering well and is in good spirits”.
The school also assured parents that no student was involved in the incident.
”Any form of violence within our school is entirely unacceptable. We are proud of the safe and supportive culture that is the norm at our school,” the note read.
“We want to assure you that the health and safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority.”
The school has reopened today.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
