Emergency services were called to the intersection of King and Little Bourke Streets following reports of an altercation outside a pub about 2.40am.

A man, believed to be aged in his late teens, was found on King Street with multiple stab wounds.

He died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified by police.

A 19-year-old man was arrested a short time later in Aurora Lane.

It is believed both men were known to each other.

A crime scene has established and an investigation remains ongoing.

King Street is currently closed between Bourke and Lonsdale streets.

The arrested man is expected to be interviewed by police today.
