Man charged after allegedly wearing vest covered in duct tape

A man has been charged with offensive conduct after allegedly wearing a vest covered in duct tape in Bondi Junction in Sydney‘s east.

Police told Today there was “genuine concern and fear in Bondi” over the incident last night.

Police were called to Oxford Street just after 10pm following reports of suspicious behaviour.

There they spoke to and subsequently arrested a 33-year-old Victorian man.

He was allegedly wearing a vest covered in duct taped objects at the time.

Police found a second taped vest was in the man’s car during a search.

Both vests were examined by officers attached to Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and deemed safe.

Police also found a face mask and a tin believed to contain prohibited drugs in the man’s vehicle.

The man was taken to Surry Hills police station and charged with offensive conduct, possessing a prohibited drug, and giving false information.

He was refused bail and will face court today.
