A man is set to face court after being charged with an alleged fatal hit-and-run in Sydney’s north-west last week.

At around 7.45pm, emergency services were called to Old Kurrajong Road at Richmond on Sunday last week after a passing motorist noticed a man lying about 3 metres from the roadway.

The motorist assisted the 23-year-old man until paramedics arrived, however, the man died at the scene.

Officers secured a crime scene that was examined by specialist police before it was established that the man was struck by an unknown vehicle that allegedly failed to stop after the crash.

About an hour later, police arrived at a paddock off Kurmond Road in North Richmond, following a report of a Nissan Navara utility turning off the road and crashing into nearby bushland.

A 41-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics for minor injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital for mandatory assessment.

A secondary crime scene was established at the paddock, and the vehicle was seized for forensic examination.

Following further inquiries, at around 5.45pm yesterday, officers arrested a 41-year-old man at an address in McGraths Hill.

He was taken to Windsor Police Station, where he was charged with multiple offences, including driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving occasioning death and failing to stop and assist after a vehicle impact causing death.

He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in court today.
