A man has escaped injury after his boat became engulfed in flames in Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay and sank.
Large plumes of black smoke could be seen from the shore where the boat went up in flames off Chelsea Beach, in Melbourne’s south-east, around 11.40am.
One person was on board the 12-metre vessel when it caught fire, police said.
He was brought to shore by a nearby boat and checked over by paramedics.
Firefighters were seen battling the flames from the water just after midday, before the boat became submerged just before 12.30pm.
Water police are on scene.
Fire Rescue Victoria have been contacted for comment.
