Nine senior journalist Andrew Probyn recognised at journalism awards

Nine has been recognised for its outstanding journalism, with 9News National Affairs Editor Andrew Probyn winning the television/video news reporting category at the annual Walkley Awards.

Probyn picked up the honour for his report into Russian gangsters and the Medibank hack at a ceremony in Sydney overnight.

His report revealed how cyber experts from the Australian Signals Directorate smashed a multi-million-dollar business run by Russians gangsters that targeted the data of major businesses, including private health insurer Medibank Private.

Journalists from The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald won six categories at the awards, held to recognise excellence in journalism.

They included staff from The Age who worked on the trial of Victorian woman and mushroom murderer Erin Patterson who was convicted of killing three people.

Investigative reporter Eryk Bagshaw, Good Food reporter Bianca Hrovat and crime reporter Claire Sibthorpe received the news reporting Walkley for their work investigating the sinister side of the hospitality industry.

Good Weekend senior writer Melissa Fyfe won the best feature writing award in the short category for her examination of forced marriages in Australia.
