Police believe a teenage boy who was stabbed at the door of a Gold Coast home last night may have been in debt to his attackers.

Two males went to a house on Batchworth Road, Molendinar, about 7.20pm (AEST) and asked for the 17-year-old Carrara boy by name.

When he came to the door, there was a short conversation, before he was allegedy stabbed with a knife.

The two offenders then fled the scene in a white Mercedes-Benz dual-cab ute.

Other people at the home at the time called triple zero and the boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

The ute was later found and seized by police at the Grand Hotel in Labrador, however the two offenders remain on the run.

“We do believe that the attack has been targeted, we don’t believe there is any further threat to the public,” Gold Coast Detective Inspector Mark Mooney said today.

“The offenders have approached the house and asked for the victim by name and we believe that the incident has occurred over some debt that is in existence between the two parties.

“The reason for that debt is still to be determined.”

The teen underwent surgery overnight and is recovering today.

Police hope to speak with him this afternoon.

Mooney said the boy had been staying at the Molendinar address for a number of weeks but it was not his usual place of residence.

Officers are also hoping to speak with the registered owner of the white ute, a 32-year-old Molendinar man, to determine his whereabouts at the time.

Mobile phone data is expected to play a part in the investigation.

Police are calling for anybody with relevant information, CCTV, or dashcam vision, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online.
