A person is fighting for life in hospital after almost drowning at a Gold Coast theme park this afternoon.

Paramedics were called to WhiteWater World at 2.03pm (3.03pm AEDT) “following a post immersion incident”, Queensland Ambulance said.

The person was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

WhiteWater World is the water theme park attached to Dreamworld.

The person was pulled from the water of the Cave of Waves attraction, a 50-metre-long wave pool, the theme park said in a statement.

“Our highly trained lifeguards responded immediately, and Queensland Ambulance Service attended the scene promptly,” the theme park said.

“The safety and wellbeing of our guests and team members is our highest priority.”
