A March for Australia protest in the centre of Melbourne turned violent last month when a group of anti-racism counter-protesters clashed with police, leading to large rocks and projectiles being thrown and injuring police.

A female sergeant received a serious hand injury, which a police statement claims impacts her ability to work, and a senior constable received a laceration to his leg that required stitches.

Police have made one arrest, with a 24-year-old Corio man charged with several offences for allegedly throwing a rock at a police officer.

He was charged with reckless conduct endangering a person, assaulting police, discharging a missile, behaving in a disorderly manner and failing to answer bail.

The man appeared at Melbourne Magistrates Court, where he was bailed to appear again on November 20.

Police are trying to track down eight more people who were seen near Spring Street and Exhibition Street on the day of the protests.

Many are wearing hoods or masks, making it more difficult to identify them.

One of the individuals pictured was holding a lollipop stop sign normally used by road workers, but with the phrase “stop Nazi’s” written underneath.

Police allege counter protesters threw rocks, glass bottles and rotten fruit at police.
