Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced he will recall parliament early to pass new hate speech and gun buyback laws in response to the December 14 terror attack at Bondi Beach.

At a press conference this afternoon, Albanese said both houses will return next Monday and Tuesday to move a condolence motion to acknowledge the 15 victims of the attack, as well as debate a range of new legislation.

He is hopeful the reforms will pass by Tuesday afternoon.

“We intend to have that legislation pass the House before question time, which will occur at the normal time at 2pm, and then will be considered by the Senate in the afternoon in order to ensure its passage on that day,” he said.
