A 19-year-old man has been charged after an alleged assault left a Norwegian tourist with a broken arm in St Kilda.
The alleged attack happened on December 18 after a group of up to eight people approached the 34-year-old man in Melbourne’s inner suburbs and allegedly accused him of taking photos of others.

His phone was allegedly taken and thrown into the water, before he was allegedly assaulted.

The attack has been called “disgusting” by police. (9News)
He was taken to hospital after suffering a broken arm, and has since returned home despite planning to stay in Australia for Christmas.

Last night, a 19-year-old man from Deer Park self-presented at a police station.

He was interviewed by police, and subsequently charged with intentionally causing injury, robbery, affray and theft.

The man was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on July 8 next year.

Police believe there are still seven offenders who haven’t been located and identified at this stage.

Detective Senior Constable Jesse Coppel called the attack “disgusting” and lamented the peace of the beach during summer being disrupted.

“People behaving in this way is deplorable, it doesn’t belong here,” he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
