Bush arrived in Porepunkah, 310km north-east of Melbourne, yesterday to support local police officers at Bright Police Station, where the taskforce dedicated to finding the fugitive is based.
“This was one of the most horrific crimes committed against the community and Victoria Police. Our people are still hurting,” Bush said.
There have been no confirmed sightings of Freeman since he fled the property on foot shortly after allegedly shooting two police officers dead and injuring a third on the morning of August 26.
Police are offering up to $1 million for information that leads them to the accused cop killer- the largest sum ever offered for an arrest in Victoria.
Taskforce Summit is spearheading the search for Freeman – also known as Desmond Filby – mainly focusing on nearby Mount Buffalo National Park.
But the rough, dense and rocky terrain along with the cold weather conditions have made it difficult for police in their search.
The national park was reopened to the public three weeks ago, after police shut it down for eight weeks over fears it was too dangerous with Freeman still on the run.
Bush said police believe Freeman is either dead, alive and in the area, or has fled interstate.
“If someone knows where he is, we really want to hear from those people because we really need to bring this to a conclusion,” he said.
