An 84-year-old woman has been seriously injured in an unprovoked attack in Adelaide’s south.
She was standing at traffic lights at South Plympton yesterday afternoon when CCTV showed a young man punch her to the side of the head, causing her to fall to the ground.
Security video shows the woman waiting to cross busy Marion Road when she is approached by a man crossing a side street about 3.50pm.
Apparently unprovoked, he punches the woman, knocking her to the ground before continuing along the footpath as though nothing had happened.
Good Samaritans who witnessed the attack rushed to the elderly woman’s aid.
Remarkably, she got up and started walking away, still under the watchful eye of concerned witnesses.
She was eventually taken to hospital with serious injuries.
A 31-year-old Edwardstown man was charged with aggravated assault causing harm and refused bail to face court.
The attack he’s accused of perpetrating sparked outrage among locals.
Police asked anyone who might have witnessed the incident or have video of it, including dashcam footage, to come forward.
